چکیده

he practice of medicine today is founded primarily on the henotypic characteristics of diseases. The recognition of ommon forms of cardiomyopathies as hypertrophic, diated, restrictive, and arrhythmogenic right ventricular cariomyopathies typifies the phenotype-based approach to iseases. The approach clearly has had numerous positive mpacts on the diagnosis, prognostication, prevention, and reatment of various diseases. The advent of the betalockers and inhibitors of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone athway in the treatment of systolic heart failure are estaments to the clinical utility of the phenotype-based pproach. Despite the enormous impacts, however, the henotype-based approach has considerable shortcomings. or example, the approach has failed to offer a cure for many iseases including systolic heart failure, in which pharmaologic interventions reduce mortality by approximately 0% to 30% and prolong survival by a few months (1–3).

The phenotypic plasticity of the aquatic invertebrate Caenis latipennis in response to environmental conditions in the Kheirood Kenar River, Iran

Phenotypic plasticity is the capability of an organism to change its shape in response to the environmental condition. The present study aimed to investigate the phenotypic plasticity of the aquatic invertebrate Caenis latipennis using outline analysis. Samples were collected from up- and downstream of the Kheirood Kenar River, identified to the species level and photographed using a digital ca...

The effect of food type on phenotypic plasticity of sword tail, Xiphophurus helleri, during early ontogeny

Phenotypic plasticity is an important mechanism of phenotypic adaptation in response to environmental conditions. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of food type on the body shape of swordtail, Xiphoohurus helleri, during early development using geometric morphometric method. For this purpose, two treatments including feed by Artemia naupli and commercial Biomar diet were used i...

The Role of Cardiac Myosin Binding Protein C3 in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy-Progress and Novel Therapeutic Opportunities.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a common autosomal dominant genetic cardiovascular disorder marked by genetic and phenotypic heterogeneity. Mutations in the gene encodes the cardiac myosin-binding protein C, cMYBPC3 is amongst the various sarcomeric genes that are associated with HCM. These mutations produce mutated mRNAs and truncated cMyBP-C proteins. In this review, we will discuss the ...

[Mutations in sarcomeric genes MYH7, MYBPC3, TNNT2, TNNI3, and TPM1 in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy].

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Mutation of a sarcomeric gene is the most frequent cause of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. For each such gene, however, previous studies have reported a range of different mutation frequencies, and clinical manifestations have been highly heterogeneous, both of which limit the use of genetic information in clinical practice. Our aim was to determine the frequency of mu...

On genetic and phenotypic variability of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: nature versus nurture.

The seminal discovery of the R403Q mutation in the beta-myosin heavy chain (MyHC) gene as a cause of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) by Dr. Thierfelder’s group a decade ago (1) ushered in a new era in the molecular genetics of HCM. To date, over 120 mutations in 10 genes, all encoding sarcomeric proteins, have been identified in patients with HCM (2), leading to the notion that HCM is a disea...

Phenotypic Plasticity, Bet-Hedging, and Androgen Independence in Prostate Cancer: Role of Non-Genetic Heterogeneity

It is well known that genetic mutations can drive drug resistance and lead to tumor relapse. Here, we focus on alternate mechanisms-those without mutations, such as phenotypic plasticity and stochastic cell-to-cell variability that can also evade drug attacks by giving rise to drug-tolerant persisters. The phenomenon of persistence has been well-studied in bacteria and has also recently garnere...
